Legislative Assembly Television Network

The Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories is testing its broadcasting network in February 2008.  See the charts below to find the correct channel in your community.

The broadcasts are a public service from the Legislative Assembly of the NWT.  Live coverage of the sitting day begins at 1:30 PM, Monday to Thursday and at 10:00 AM on Fridays, when the House is in Session. The two-hour live program includes Minister’s Statements, Member’s Statements, and Question Period. The live portion concludes when the House goes into Committee of the Whole.

Residents of those communities where no cable service is available can receive the Legislative Assembly Television network by adding 'rabbit ears' - a small antenna - to your television set. (If your household subscribes to satellite television service, turn off your satellite receiver.)

Official language broadcasts

The Legislative Assembly Television network has the flexibility to broadcast the House proceedings in the official languages of the Northwest Territories on a regional basis. The language feature will be available in 2008/09 upon completion of the network-testing period.

The multiple language feature will allow the Legislative Assembly to broadcast in four languages on any given day. So, for example, the feature will allow Tu Nedhe communities to receive and playback recordings made in Chipewayn and English while communities in Monfwi will receive and play back recordings in Tli Cho and English.

A schedule of programs in the official languages will be available for the May/June sitting of the Legislative Assembly.
