Biography

Sandy Lee was elected to the 14th Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories as the Member for Range Lake on December 6, 1999 and was re-elected to the 15th Legislative Assembly on November 24, 2003.  Ms. Lee was re-elected to a third term in the Assembly on October 1, 2007. 

During the 15th Legislative Assembly, Ms. Lee served as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Social Programs that oversees legislative and financial matters pertaining to the Department of Health and Social Services, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment, the Department of Justice and the NWT Housing Corporation.

A long-time Northerner, Ms. Lee has made Yellowknife her home since 1978. She is a proud product of the local education system, having graduated from William McDonald Junior High School and Sir John Franklin High School where she was awarded the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and the Mace Coffey Service Award for service and leadership within the student community.

Ms. Lee earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with High Honours from Carleton University in Ottawa and a law degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax. She also studied two years of the Business Administration Program, majoring in Consumer Marketing at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary.
 
Before commencing her career as a lawyer in Yellowknife, Ms. Lee worked for the Government of the Northwest Territories in various capacities. She served as a research officer for the Members of the Legislative Assembly and as an Executive Assistant to Cabinet Minister’s and the Speaker of the House.
