When the Legislative Assembly is in session, the Standing Committee on Priorities & Planning meets on a daily basis to prepare for the business of the House and to review the previous days' business.
Members have begun their review of the Main Estimates for 2018-2019. The Rules of the Legislative Assembly provide Members the opportunity to give a 20-minute Reply to the Budget Address for the six sitting days following the Finance Minister’s presentation of the budget. Members can also comment on the proposed budget for each department, once the day’s proceedings turn to the work of the Committee of the Whole. The review of departments may then proceed to each budgeted activity or the Committee may elect to defer consideration of a department or activity. A key feature of Consensus Government is the ability to effect change through ongoing communication between all Members. Deferring the review of a department or activity can allow Members additional time to engage with one another on important outstanding issues.
