Bill 1: Western Canada Lottery Act

Bill 1: Western Canada Lottery Act

(YELLOWKNIFE) Friday, March 2, 2018 – Members of the Standing Committee on Government Operations, chaired by Mr. Kieron Testart, are pleased with the changes that are being made to Bill 1: Western Canada Lottery Act.

The Standing Committee made a number of recommendations on this legislation and worked with the government to make substantive changes to the bill. One of these major changes is that Municipal and Community Affairs must disclose the disbursement of lottery funds to the public in the form of an annual report to be tabled during House proceedings.

The Committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2018 and attendance was well received with approximately 30 people in the audience. Committee also received 11 written submissions and 8 oral submissions with suggestions from the public on ways that this legislation could be stronger.

“Committee members took the concerns of the public into consideration when making recommended changes to this bill. I am pleased with the government’s willingness to work with the Committee on implementing these changes,” said Mr. Testart.
