YELLOWKNIFE (May 15, 2015) - The Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Government Operations is holding a public review on the Report on Northwest Territories Corrections Services conducted by the Auditor General of Canada.
The Office of the Auditor General of Canada undertook the review of Corrections Services in the Northwest Territories and tabled its report in the Legislative Assembly on March 3, 2015. In a press release issued later that day, the Auditor General of Canada, Michael Ferguson, stated that the Department of Justice had not met its key responsibilities for the rehabilitation, safety, and security of inmates within the corrections system.
The Standing Committee on Government Operations is mandated to review the reports of the Auditor General for Canada and will be conducting a public meeting to review the report. Mr. Ferguson will appear as a witness before Committee, as will officials from the Department of Justice. The review will take place in Committee Room “A” of the Legislative Assembly building in Yellowknife, on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 1:45 pm and reconvene on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at 9:30 am.
Please note that the Auditor General of Canada, Mr. Michael Ferguson, is available to meet with the media on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 5 pm in the Media Room at the Legislative Assembly building in Yellowknife.
