(YELLOWKNIFE) Wednesday, January 10, 2018 – Michael M. Nadli, MLA Deh Cho, congratulates the community of Enterprise on becoming the first community in the NWT to achieve official FireSmart recognition status.

The FireSmart program, created by Environment and Natural Resources, is a set of preventative methods that help communities, industries, and homeowners reduce the threat of wildfires. The community came together to form a FireSmart committee which conducted a wildfire hazard assessment and created a FireSmart plan for Enterprise.

“The community of Enterprise is a small community undertaking major initiatives. Community Council administration and staff have done great things in the community and the FireSmart program is one of these things. Community members should be proud of themselves and other northern communities should be looking at Enterprise for how they can be FireSmart and protect their communities from wildfires,” said Mr. Nadli.
