New Chief Electoral Officer appointed by the Legislative Assembly of the NWT

YELLOWKNIFE (Friday, October 24, 2014) – The Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories today appointed Ms. Nicole Latour of Yellowknife as the Chief Electoral Officer for the NWT. The appointment is pursuant to Section 5 of the Elections and Plebiscites Act and Ms. Latour’s four year term takes effect on November 1, 2014.

In previous roles, Ms. Latour served as Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and the Sergeant-at-Arms for the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. She was born and raised in the Northwest Territories and attended Royal Roads University where she obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree. 

As Chief Electoral Officer, Ms. Latour will be responsible for the conduct of territorial elections and plebiscites. In addition, the Chief Electoral Officer will establish policies and procedures, manage the Register of Territorial Electors, supply training and guidance to electoral officers, and provide advice and recommendations to the Legislative Assembly regarding election legislation and policy.
