Expressions of Interest for the Following Positions:
Human Rights Commission Member (2)
The Northwest Territories Human Rights Commission was established in 2004 to promote a climate of understanding and respect in the NWT where all people are equal in dignity and rights. Commission members represent the public interest in their work and advise the Legislative Assembly on matters related to human rights in the Northwest Territories.
Human Rights Adjudication Panel Members (1)
The Human Rights Adjudication Panel is an independent tribunal with the authority to hear and decide cases in a fair and impartial manner. Cases may arise as a result of a complaint referred for hearing to determine the merits or an appeal from the dismissal of a complaint by the Director of Human Rights.
Members of the Panel must be Canadian residents and a member of at least five years good standing of a law society of a province or territory; or have at least five years of experience as a member of an administrative tribunal or a court.
Under the Human Rights Act, a Member of the Commission or of the Adjudication Panel is appointed for a term of four years and must have experience with, an interest in, and a sensitivity to, human rights.
Expressions of interest, including a summary of qualification and relevant skills and experience, should be submitted to the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 12, 2018. Diversity is valued and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
