The Standing Committee on Social Development publishes its correspondence on junior kindergarten implementation and classroom instructional hours

 

(YELLOWKNIFE) April 6, 2017 – Today the Standing Committee on Social Development released its correspondence on classroom instructional hours and the Junior Kindergarten Program, as well as its replies from the Department of Education, Culture and Employment.

“Children’s time in school sets the stage for their future success,” said Committee Chair Shane Thompson. “We know how much both of these issues matter to students, parents, and educators, and we want to provide the public with the same information used by our Committee. We want Northerners to know where their representatives stand.”

The Committee will also host public hearings on Bill 16: An Act to Amend the Education Act in Yellowknife on April 7, 2017, in Inuvik on April 10th, and in Hay River on April 12th. Written submissions are welcome.

Committee members include Shane Thompson (Nahendeh), Julie Green (Yellowknife Centre), Tom Beaulieu (Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh), Frederick Blake Jr. (Mackenzie Delta), and Michael M. Nadli (Deh Cho).
